World Cleanup Day in Bonn – Circular Hemp e.V. was there!
World Cleanup Day took place on Sunday, September 20, 2026—and this year, Bonn was the German host city for the largest citizen-led cleanup event against litter. Despite the wet weather, around 600 volunteers collected more than one metric ton of trash at seven cleanup hubs throughout the city.
Circular Hemp e.V. was represented in Bonn by our chairman, Dr. Marcus Geschwandtner, and founding member, Dr. Angela Graf—because for us, sustainability doesn’t end with cleanup; it begins with prevention.
Why Industrial Hemp? Because the Circular Economy Raises Questions About Materials
World Cleanup Day highlights the fact that we need to use resources more responsibly. Alternative raw materials—especially regional ones—can make a real difference in this regard. Industrial hemp is one such raw material. It has a wide range of uses—for example, in textiles, building materials, composite materials, plastics, paper, and packaging, as well as in animal feed and food products.
In the packaging sector in particular, industrial hemp offers interesting approaches for a more circular and resource-efficient economy—and thus for less waste that later ends up in parks, rivers, and on the sides of roads.
Industrial hemp also offers promising prospects for a resource-efficient circular economy in the field of construction and insulation materials. Hemp-based insulation materials combine good thermal and sound insulation properties with the use renewable raw materials. At the end of their useful life, they can often be recycled as material or used for energy recovery.
Thanks to our dedicated partners SportHubs, Cartomat and FIZZ, we were able to make some packaging products as well as construction and insulation materials made from industrial hemp truly tangible as part of World Cleanup Day.
World Cleanup Day in Bonn was not only a day of hands-on volunteer work for us, but also an opportunity to discuss sustainable raw materials and circular business models. After all: A clean environment starts in the mind—and is reflected in smart, compliant products.
Thanks to everyone who participated—and to everyone who’s contributing ideas!
